About the event

Join us at Backstory Bookshop for an illuminating conversation between Susana Monsó, associate professor of philosophy and author of Playing Possum: How Animals Understand Death (Princeton University Press), and Paula Casal, ICREA Professor and co-director of the UPF Center for Animal Ethics. This discussion, part of  University Press Week, will delve into Monsó’s groundbreaking research on animal cognition, revealing how species from opossums to elephants engage with the concept of death.

With Casal’s expert guidance, Monsó will explore stories of animals who attend funerals, care for their dead, and navigate the mystery of dying in ways both familiar and surprising, challenging our anthropocentric views and offering a new perspective on mortality across the animal kingdom. Casal, who co-authored The Rights of the Apes with philosopher Peter Singer, brings a wealth of knowledge on animal ethics, adding depth to this thought-provoking discussion.

Don't miss this opportunity to engage with two leading…
