About the event
#LivingTheDream is a compelling anthology delving into the often-unspoken challenges of expat life, and covers issues such as grief, loneliness, Brexit, motherhood, identity, rootlessness, drinking culture, and the impact of Covid-19. This collection features powerful stories from nine women who have experienced life abroad in Spain, Hong Kong, Australia, Israel, Belgium, New Zealand, and the UK.
One of the first books to candidly explore the emotional struggles that come with leaving one's home country, this compilation of stories sheds light on the complex feelings of isolation, disconnection, and the clash between external perceptions and personal realities that many expats face.
The book was inspired by Carrie's own experiences of isolation and grief during the Covid-19 lockdown and a heightened sense of dislocation following Brexit. Through this project, Carrie aims to foster genuine connections, promote meaningful dialogue, and raise awareness about the dangers of 'toxic positivity.'
“Expats are sometimes viewed as courageous, uprooting ourselves from the country of our birth and one’s extended family. But we often struggle with people’s perceptions versus our own reality,” Carrie explains.
Don’t miss this opportunity to engage in an honest and insightful conversation about the realities of expat life.
